Michael Koehn London Experience Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship named in memory of Michael Köehn, an exceptional student who took part in the spring 1997 Cal Poly in London Program. The program was a major opportunity for growth in Michael’s short life. The endowment is largely funded by contributions from Michael’s family and friends. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide support annually to qualified Cal Poly students with demonstrated need and artistic interest, which may be expressed through music, drama, dance, visual arts and/or other artistic forms to participate in valuable learning opportunities in the UK, including the Cal Poly in London Program.
Eligibility
- Minimum cumulative G.P.A. 2.75 at the time of application
- Accepted to a Cal Poly program in the UK, including but not limited to the Cal Poly in London program
- Full-time enrollment at Cal Poly the term prior to study abroad
- Must have submitted a FAFSA application for the upcoming year
- Demonstrated need and demonstrated artistic interest, which may be expressed through music, drama, dance, the visual arts, or other artistic forms
- Preference for students who are under-represented either economically or through physical limitations
How to Apply
- From your
My Cal Poly Portal apps, click 'Cal Poly Scholarships.'
- Complete the General Scholarship Application, being sure to answer the question "Do you plan on participating in a study abroad program in the upcoming year" with an answer of "Yes." This will direct you to answer supplemental scholarship questions related to study abroad scholarships after you complete the general scholarship application.
- Complete the General and Study Abroad scholarship applications. Even though some fields are not marked as required, you are encouraged to complete the application in its entirety in order to be considered for the widest range of scholarships. Be sure to click 'Save and Keep Editing' frequently.
- Your eligibility for scholarships will be based on your answers to the questions in both the General and Study Abroad scholarship application.
- When you compose your scholarship essay, be sure to discuss how you specifically are a good candidate for this particular award.
Notification of award
All students will be notified via email about the outcome of the scholarship award approximately four weeks after the scholarship deadline.
Service Requirement
Scholarship recipients will be asked to participate in orientation and pre-departure efforts for the study abroad program in which they participated upon their return to Cal Poly. Additionally, recipients will be asked during their participation in their program to provide updates to the Cal Poly International Center which will be shared with the donor. Further, the scholarship donor will be in communication with scholarship recipients.
