Barcelona

Location

Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean and one of the biggest in Europe. And yet, it’s friendly, warm, and on the beach. Known for being edgy and modern, the spirit of Barcelona has shaped some of the most fascinating art and architecture in the world, including works by Gaudí, Miro, and Picasso. For more info about this location, visit the CIEE website.

Barcelona

Host Institution
Students will have the opportunity to study at CIEE’s Study Center as well as the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IaaC). The CIEE Study Center in Barcelona, Spain, is located in two adjoining historic buildings on Passatge Permanyer, near Passeig de Gràcia and Plaza Catalunya, Barcelona’s main square. IaaC is an international center for education, research and development, and fabrication centered around the concept of architecture as a discipline. For more info about these host institutions, visit the CIEE website.

Academics

The Global Architecture and Design curriculum in Barcelona consists of three main components: a Future Cities Design Studio; a Future Cities Seminar, and Science, Engineering and Technology Workshops. Students may opt to also take a CIEE elective course. Courses are taught in English by CIEE-contracted IaaC faculty who also facilitate collaborative projects with local professionals and peers.
