Program Description:


The CSU International Programs (IP) offers affordable academic year study abroad options at 50 different universities in 18 countries. The IP Direct Enrollment Program is coordinated by the Office of International Relations at the University of Tübingen. Students have the opportunity to study at various types of institutions of higher education.

Biberach is located is in southwest Germany. IP is affiliated with the State of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany. It is the third largest state in the Federal Republic and one of the most economically powerful, with a focus on research and development. Baden-Württemberg is home to world-renowned universities. It is also an area of scenic beauty.

Host Institution: Biberach University of Applied Science (Hochschule Biberach)

The Hochschule Biberach is situated between Ulm and Lake Constance. It is a relatively small institution with around 1800 students and a very good student-to-teacher ratio. This institution offers very practiseoriented courses and is especially strong in the areas of structural design and urban planning.  For more information about Biberach University of Applied Science, visit the website the Biberach website.

IP is coordinated on the German side by the University of Tübingen, where the International Programs maintains its office. This arrangement allows students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and disciplines to pursue courses in their major area of study at one of the many and varied institutions of higher education included in the agreement.

All IP students participate in a Preparatory Language Program (PLP) before the fall semester begins. Through the IP program in Germany students have the opportunity to study at various types of institutions of higher education. In addition to the traditional university, there are other types where, in some cases, students will find more appropriate parallels to their work at the home campus.

You will earn Cal Poly credit on this program.
You are highly encouraged to get your Major, Minor and GE courses pre-approved prior to applying to this program.

Major Courses: Provide the course descriptions to your Academic Advising Center/Faculty Advisor to determine the course equivalencies and how credits will transfer back.  You are highly encouraged to consult with their academic advisor/faculty advisor to complete any necessary paperwork prior to applying/departure.
Minor Courses:  Consult with the Minor Department to discuss the best way to seek course pre-approvals.
Credit Transfer of GE Courses: Pick up the GE Course Substitution for Study Abroad form at the Cal Poly International Center (Building 52- Room E32). Please provide the course descriptions of the GE courses you wish to have approved when submitting the form.  Allow four to six weeks to hear back about substitution approvals. You will hear back about your GE petitions with an email notification from

This program is open to Architecture majors.
- Minimum 2.75 GPA
- 4th Year standing
- 1 Term College-level German (or equivalency) 
- Recommended by the Architecture Department at Cal Poly
- Not actively on academic probation
- Good disciplinary standing 

How to Apply
1. Complete Cal Poly International Center "Architecture Away" application by January 10th.
2. Complete the Cal Poly International Center "CSU IP Germany: Architecture Direct Enrollment" application by January 10th. 
3. Submit all application materials through the CSU IP website/Terra Dotta system by February 1st deadline

Program Details

Housing is coordinated by CSU IP staff in Germany. Students typically live in dormitories and will be notified of their dorm options when their host university has been assigned. 
The IP Germany program is an academic yearlong program.
