Program Description:


Cal Poly Partner Programs such as USAC provide students with options to select from a wide variety of destinations and lengths of time abroad.
The USAC Lüneburg, Germany program is ideal for students interested in learning the German language and focusing on European Studies—specifically Germany’s role within the European Union—or for fall and yearlong students studying Engineering. Through formal coursework and personal interaction with the host culture, you will greatly expand your language skills and knowledge of German society.

Lüneburg, a city in the German state of Niedersachsen, is only 30 minutes south of Hamburg by train, a thriving city of 1.8 million. One of the few German cities that was not destroyed in WWII, Lüneburg offers an extraordinary opportunity to live in the beauty and history of a city dating back more than a thousand years. Host Institution

The USAC office and classes are located on the campus of Leuphana University Lüneburg. The present-day university was founded in 1946 as a School of Education, greatly expanded in the 1980s, and moved to its current campus in 1994. For more information about this host institution, visit the USAC website.


While in Lüneburg, students may take courses that focus on German language, European studies, and engineering.

You will earn transfer credit on this program. You are highly encouraged to get your Major, Minor and GE courses pre-approved prior to applying to this program.

Major Courses: Provide the course descriptions to your Academic Advising Center/Faculty Advisor to determine the course equivalencies and how credits will transfer back.  You are highly encouraged to consult with their academic advisor/faculty advisor to complete any necessary paperwork prior to applying/departure.
Minor Courses:  Consult with the Minor Department to discuss the best way to seek course pre-approvals.
Credit Transfer of GE Courses: Pick up the GE Course Substitution for Study Abroad form at the Cal Poly International Center (Building 52- Room E32). Please provide the course descriptions of the GE courses you wish to have approved when submitting the form.  Allow four to six weeks to hear back about substitution approvals. Program Details


Students can either live in university student accommodations, private apartments, or home-stays. For more info about program housing, visit the USAC website.
This USAC program offers Fall and Spring Semester programs, yearlong programs, as well as Summer sessions of varied lengths. To review the program dates for specific terms, visit the USAC website.
NOTE: A Spring semester program will overlap with Cal Poly’s Winter and Spring Quarters.
Extracurricular activities such as theatre visits, Stammtisch (monthly conversation gatherings with German and international students), day trips, and sport activities will be organized in cooperation with the Leuphana University Lüneburg international office and the international student organization. USAC staff invites USAC students and occasionally guests to meet for “Coffee, Cake, and Culture” to share experiences and help understand and reflect on them.
